Elena usually works in Crimes Against Persons. But she’s branching out, reluctantly, into Crimes Against Elephants. After Pansy the elephant tramples a trainer, the zoo director insists that someone incited her—after all, she’s the sweetest, gentlest elephant he’s ever known. Elena can’t take the case too seriously at first, especially since she’s busy dodging projectiles thrown by the still-enraged elephant. Then, when evidence indicates that Pansy may indeed be the pawn of a human predator and when other people are endangered by zoo creatures, she’s forced to take another look. . .
